Diamond Clarity Complete Diamond Clarity Knowledge
Each diamond has its contents. The quantity, size, shape and color of its contents will determine the clarity and quality of each diamond. Most of the diamond's contents cannot be identified by the naked eye. The less the contents, the more the light refracts, making it doubly bright. We can use a 10x magnifying glass to find out the difference. The cleanliness classification standards in the United States include: FL, IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, I1, I2, I3. (Note: FL is the best, decreasing in order.)
Flawless
Under a ten-fold mirror, no defects can be detected inside or outside the diamond.
IF (Internally Flawless) has no internal defects
Under a ten-fold magnifying glass, the diamond has no defects on the inside, but small defects on the outside.
VVS1, VVS2 (Very Very Very Slightly Included)
Under a ten-fold magnifying glass, there are tiny defects, such as pin-point size, that are difficult to inspect inside or outside the diamond.
VS1, VS2 (Very Slightly Included) slight defects
Under a ten-fold magnifying glass, there are defects on the inside or outside of the diamond that are difficult to inspect.
SI1 (Slightly Included)
Under a tenfold magnifying glass, some defects can be seen inside and outside the diamond.
Diamonds above "SI1" level are of good quality if the defects are invisible to the naked eye.
SI2 (Slightly Included)
Under a tenfold magnifying glass, it is easy to see defects inside or outside the diamond. Some of these defects can be seen directly with the naked eye.
I1 (Imperfect) is defective
The inner and outer defects of the diamond can be seen directly with the naked eye.
I2 (Imperfect) is defective
The inner and outer defects of the diamond can be seen directly with the naked eye. The content accounts for a quarter of the diamond and affects the brightness of the diamond.
I3 (Imperfect) is defective
You can directly see with the naked eye that there are many obvious defects on the inside and outside of the diamond.
