Ruby

The English name of ruby is Ruby, which comes from Latin and means red. It belongs to the corundum group minerals, and is a cubic crystal system. It is red to pink due to its chromium content, and the higher the content, the brighter the color. The blood-red ruby is most cherished by people, commonly known as "dove blood-red". Ruby and emerald, Jinshui Bodhi sapphire, tourmaline, etc. all belong to the colored gemstones.

Most natural rubies come from Asia (Myanmar, Thailand and Sri Lanka), Africa and Australia, as well as Montana and South Carolina. Natural rubies are very rare and precious, but it is not too difficult to make them, so industrial rubies are all man-made.

Ruby is one of the precious varieties in jewelry. Ruby is gorgeous in color. Under the illumination of the light source, it can reflect six beautiful and moving starlight, commonly known as six lines, which is caused by the special crystal structure of ruby and is its unique optical phenomenon. Ruby can be transparent, translucent and opaque, and its color can be divided into shades of water red, pink, pigeon blood red, rose red and other colors. Because large rubies are very rare, the rubies with larger grains that are usually seen are usually fake. There are two kinds of false rubies: the first is to pass off a low-grade ruby as a ruby, and all false rubies have no unique color shape and light property of rubies. The second is artificial ruby. Artificial ruby is very similar to natural ruby in specific gravity, hardness and color. It can be intuitively judged that the artificial ruby has a uniform texture, no natural impurities, uniform and positive color, often large particles, and lack of natural sense.

The intensity and evenness of red are two major factors used to determine the price of ruby. The precious ruby has moderate intensity and uniform color. If the pink ruby with strong color is clear, transparent and beautiful, it may also be highly valued.

Generally, 1.2 carats of high-quality rubies are treasures, worth more than 30000 dollars per carat, which is more expensive than ordinary diamonds. According to records, the world's largest pigeon blood ruby weighs only 55 carats. Another kind of treasure is the "pomegranate seed" ruby, which is crystal clear and translucent, and slightly red, like the light red pomegranate seed, with small particles. The bright red ruby is also of high quality, but if the color is dark or too light, the quality is poor. If ruby has starlight, its value will be even higher.

The evaluation of ruby should be carried out under different light sources. When observed in strong light, ruby may show extremely strong color; However, when observed under normal lighting environment, this kind of gem may appear less intense. Therefore, light is a very important factor in determining the true color of ruby.

Because most rubies have fluorescence reaction, ultraviolet devices are often installed in foreign jewelry stores to make the rubies find the beautiful glow like fire, which makes the buyers cannot put it down. But taking it out of the store is far from brilliant. Therefore, when purchasing ruby in this case, you must take it outside the store and observe it in the sun before purchasing it.
