Friends who have relevant knowledge about diamonds know that the 4C grade of diamonds is the main factor that determines the price of diamonds, and the level of diamond grade is also the key to affecting the price of diamonds. However, when purchasing diamonds, it is found that the prices of diamonds of the same grade are also different. Why is this?
Friends who have relevant knowledge about diamonds know that the 4C grade of diamonds is the main factor that determines the price of diamonds, and the level of diamond grade is also the key to affecting the price of diamonds. However, when purchasing diamonds, it is found that the prices of diamonds of the same grade are also different. Why is this?
Diamond price, diamond shape
Diamond shape
Diamond shape has a certain impact on diamond prices. Usually, the most common diamond shape on the market is round, which is also the shape that most consumers like. In addition to round diamonds, there are some other shapes of diamonds, which we call "special-shaped diamonds". The more common special-shaped diamonds are: pear-shaped, heart-shaped, oval, square, etc.
Generally speaking, diamonds of different shapes have different degrees of loss during the cutting process, among which round diamonds have more loss. Therefore, the price of round diamonds is usually lower than that of fancy-shaped diamonds. Diamonds of different shapes also have different price trends, so GIA diamonds of the same grade have different shapes and prices.
Diamond fluorescence
Diamond grades are usually based on diamond weight, diamond color, diamond clarity, and diamond cut, but diamond fluorescence is also considered part of the diamond grade, so diamond fluorescence also has a certain impact on diamond prices. Diamond fluorescence is the light emitted by diamonds under the stimulation of ultraviolet light, but not all diamonds have fluorescence.
Diamond fluorescence grades are divided into five levels: "none", "slight", "medium", "strong", and "very strong". Appropriate fluorescence levels will make diamonds look whiter at a certain distance, while too strong fluorescence reactions may make diamonds look foggy and reduce the brilliance of diamonds. In particular, diamonds with high color grades should try to avoid fluorescence reactions with an intensity of Very Strong or above, otherwise the price of diamonds will fall. The current price difference of diamonds with different fluorescence grades on the market is: weak fluorescence 3%, medium fluorescence 10%, and strong fluorescence about 20% (data for reference only).
GIA Diamond Laser Code
Whether the diamond waist has a laser code will also have a certain impact on the diamond price. The GIA laser code refers to the GIA certificate number engraved on the diamond waist using laser technology. For some diamond buyers who are new to buying diamonds, the diamond and the GIA certificate can be checked through the laser code, so many consumers will pay more attention to the diamond laser code, but not all diamond waists will have laser codes, and there is also a price difference between diamonds with codes and diamonds without codes.
Usually, the price of diamonds with codes is more expensive than diamonds without codes, mainly because engraving laser codes is a procedure. Usually, GIA diamonds need to charge a fee of US$15 for laser coding, which increases the cost of the wholesale link, so the price of diamonds will be slightly higher.
